The governor of Nigeria’s Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, has promised the arrest of those responsible for an attack that killed seven people on Monday evening in Gero, in Jos South local government area. He said on Tuesday that investigators had collected useful evidence at the scene and that security forces were using it to track down those responsible, Punch reports.
Caleb Mutfwang called on residents to be more vigilant and to pass credible information to security forces promptly. He explained that responses could be delayed when alerts came in too late.
The governor also said that authorities were pursuing suspects linked to previous attacks in Kombun district, in Mangu local government area. According to him, the alleged leader of one of the attacks has been arrested and several people are already facing prosecution, Punch reports.
The promise of arrests follows the attack that killed seven people in Nigeria’s Plateau State, reported on 27 October. Another publication had reported six deaths in Gero, before the governor announced the toll cited here.
