Community leaders in Bangui’s 8th arrondissement were briefed on Ebola transmission and prevention measures at a meeting organised by the Central African health ministry. The campaign aims to boost vigilance against the risk of the virus being imported, according to Centra-News.
The Central African Republic’s Ministry of Health and Population briefed community leaders in Bangui’s 8th arrondissement on 30 October about the risk of Ebola virus disease being imported. The meeting, held at the arrondissement’s town hall, was part of a national awareness campaign launched on 25 October, according to the ministry.
A team from the Directorate of Community Health, led by Parfait Constant Seboulo, screened a film of about 30 minutes on how the virus is transmitted and how to prevent infection. Discussions then covered symptoms, appropriate behaviour and ways to protect communities. A caravan featuring artists also disseminated prevention messages in the Gobongo neighbourhood and surrounding areas.
The Minister of Health and Population, Dr Pierre Somse, said a survey conducted in October by U-Report found that 19% of people knew about Ebola prevention measures, while 19% were undecided. The campaign was launched in Bangui on 28 October, following an initial phase in the 4th arrondissement.
