Rotary International will strengthen its support for the fight against polio in the Central African Republic, while supporting local sanitation, education and community development initiatives. Hyacinthe Defoundoux-Fila, governor of Rotary International District 9150, announced this during a visit to Bangui, according to Centra-News.

The governor said that the Bangui Rénové club, which had suspended its activities before resuming them, would be monitored to consolidate its operations and field activities. Rotary will continue in particular to support awareness-raising and community mobilisation against polio, whose spread can be encouraged by population movements, he explained to Centra-News.

District 9150 covers ten countries and its governor must visit all the clubs in one year. In Bangui, he also praised sanitation work carried out in some schools, including clearing brush, and cited the promotion of peace, environmental protection and the fight against disease among the organisation’s priorities.
