Preliminary results from the second phase of the IMPULSE project, tested in Bangui from July 2025 to July 2026, were presented at a national workshop on 27 October, Centranews reports.
The Central African Ministry of Health and Population estimates that at least 28 out of 100 newborns die in the Central African Republic, according to its officer responsible for defence matters, Dr Samuel Gondjé. He presented the figure on 27 October in Bangui, at the opening of a workshop devoted to the preliminary results of the second phase of the IMPULSE project.
Tested from July 2025 to July 2026 at the Bangui Paediatric University Hospital Complex, the project seeks to strengthen clinical documentation and improve newborn care. Its two components cover the training of healthcare workers and data managers, as well as the design and evaluation of neonatal clinical records developed with their users.
Dr Gondjé said the results should help identify the difficulties compromising newborn survival and propose standardised tools for healthcare professionals. The workshop brings together healthcare workers, researchers, ministry officials and technical and scientific partners.
