Journalist and Groupe Avenir Communication head Madiambal Diagne believes Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye could dissolve the National Assembly even before a possible rejection of the 2026 supplementary finance bill. He presents the possibility as a way out of the standoff between the executive and MPs, according to SeneNews.

Senegalese journalist Madiambal Diagne has raised the possibility that President Bassirou Diomaye Faye could dissolve the National Assembly before the vote on the 2026 supplementary finance bill (LFR). The head of Groupe Avenir Communication believes the head of state could exercise this power without waiting for a possible rejection of the budget text, according to SeneNews.

Madiambal Diagne attributes the standoff between the executive and Parliament to a desire by Ousmane Sonko and the Pastef group to obstruct proceedings. He believes the confrontation is aimed in particular at pushing the president to reverse his position on the prime minister and certain officials who have left the government. The finance committee has rejected the 2026 LFR bill several times, while its examination by the Assembly resumed on 26 October.

The mention of a dissolution comes after the rejection of the 2026 LFR by the finance committee on 23 October, followed by the Assembly's examination of the supplementary budget on 26 October. On 28 October, Bassirou Diomaye Faye called for the implementation of the 2026 and 2027 budgets.
