Amadou Athié announced on 29 October 2026 in Matam that he was leaving PASTEF, the party led by Ousmane Sonko, and said he intended to support the movement of President Bassirou Diomaye Faye. Amadou Athié, a founding member of PASTEF in Matam, announced that he was leaving the party led by Ousmane Sonko and supporting the political movement of Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye. He made his decision public on 29 October 2026 in Matam, according to Seneweb, cited by SeneNews.

Athié said his departure was for political and personal reasons, including a gap between the values that had led him to join the party and certain practices he said he had observed there. He said he was not leaving politics and wanted to put his experience at the service of the movement led by the head of state. He previously coordinated PASTEF at the University of Thiès and the Patriotic Youth of Senegal in the Matam region.

The announcement follows Fallilou Ngom’s departure from PASTEF, announced on 30 October 2026. In July, Bassirou Diomaye Faye had announced the creation of a new political formation, according to SeneNews.
