Cheikh Oumar Diagne, former director of general services at the Senegalese presidency and leader of the Rassemblement pour la Vérité, criticised actors he accused of seeking to weaken President Bassirou Diomaye Faye and Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko. He spoke on Sunday on the programme Jury du Dimanche, broadcast by iTV.
Cheikh Oumar Diagne, former director of general services at the Senegalese presidency and president of the Rassemblement pour la Vérité (RV), accused political actors of seeking to weaken President Bassirou Diomaye Faye and Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko. He spoke on Sunday 1 November on the programme “Jury du Dimanche” on iTV, according to Seneweb.
Diagne also returned to two controversies linked to his time at the Presidential Palace: his proposal to build a mosque there and his views on the history of Senegalese riflemen. He defended the first initiative, which he presented as a response to practical and security considerations, and rejected interpretations he considered mistaken. The programme report stops before giving his explanations about the riflemen.
His comments came amid public disagreements within the presidential camp. On 31 October, MP Cheikh Bara Ndiaye accused Bassirou Diomaye Faye of excluding Ousmane Sonko from a ceremony, while Amadou Athié announced on 1 November that he was leaving PASTEF to support the president’s direction.
