Senegalese commentator Badara Gadiaga called Ousmane Sonko a “false guide” after the president of the National Assembly’s night-time visit to Touba. Sonko met several Mouride leaders there and discussed the national political situation with the general khalife, according to Senenews and TFM’s Jakaarlo programme.

Senegalese commentator Badara Gadiaga called Ousmane Sonko a “false guide” after the president of the National Assembly’s night-time visit to Touba, on the programme Jakaarlo broadcast by TFM, Senego reports. He reproached him for visiting the general khalife of the Mourides after criticising money brought by certain figures to the religious city, which he had described as stolen money.

Ousmane Sonko met several Mouride dignitaries before his closed-door meeting with the general khalife, including Serigne Cheikh Say Mbacké, Serigne Cheikh Mbacké and Serigne Fallou Mbacké. During this courtesy visit, he praised the role of religious authorities in preserving peace and national cohesion, according to Senego. The discussions with the khalife reportedly focused on the national political situation and tensions between the executive and the legislature, according to Senenews.

The visit came after the alleged threats against Ousmane Sonko reported by the PASTEF party on 28 October and Ngagne Demba Touré’s denunciation of a plot against Sonko on 29 October. The khalife received Ousmane Sonko behind closed doors on 29 October, according to the article about that meeting.
