Senegal’s National Sanitation Office has committed 250 million CFA francs to projects linked to the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, including several works in Point E and Médina. The projects are between 95% and 98% complete, according to its director general, Séni Diène.
Senegal’s National Sanitation Office (ONAS) has committed 250 million CFA francs to sanitation projects preparing for the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, its director general, Séni Diène, said during a field visit on Friday. The works are between 95% and 98% complete, just days before the Games open.
In Point E, ONAS built a 150-metre stormwater collector connected to Canal 4 and doubled the length of the wastewater collector over 340 metres. At the Olympic Village, connections from the sanitation facilities to the existing network have been completed and the project has been handed over.
In Médina, on Rue 22, 160 metres of collector were laid towards the Guélé Tapée canal and the inlet grates were replaced with Dakar City Council. At the Gibraltar field, the collector was renewed and the work is being completed. Preventive cleaning after the rainy season has also been completed.
Séni Diène also announced an awareness campaign to encourage residents to preserve the infrastructure. ‘An efficient sanitation network cannot fully fulfil its mission without the involvement of the public,’ he said.
This mobilisation is part of preparations for the Youth Olympic Games, for which Senegal has allocated 600 health workers and 30 ambulances. On 30 October, Kirsty Coventry said she was satisfied with the security arrangements for the Youth Olympic Games in Dakar.
