IOC president Kirsty Coventry visited the Youth Olympic Games operations coordination centre in Dakar and attended presentations on security and service coordination. She said she was satisfied with preparations, according to Seneweb.
Kirsty Coventry, president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), said she was reassured by the security arrangements planned for the Dakar Youth Olympic Games after visiting the Operations Coordination Centre, according to Commissioner Mamadou Diouf, spokesman for Senegal’s national police, as quoted by Seneweb.
The official attended two presentations on measures to protect athletes, delegations and the public, as well as the organisation of the Operations Coordination Centre and coordination between the armed forces and civilian institutions. The visit began at 5.45pm and ended at 6pm, in the presence of Mamadou Diagna Ndiaye, president of the Senegalese National Olympic and Sports Committee, and Ibrahima Wade, general coordinator of the Youth Olympic Games organising committee.
The visit came after security arrangements were strengthened, with 53 French officers supporting security for the Dakar Youth Olympic Games, announced on 26 October. It also forms part of preparations ahead of the delegations’ arrival, including the welcome praised by Senegalese Customs at AIBD on 29 October.
