An order by the sub-prefect of Sindia bans all motorcycles from travelling at night in Saly Portudal, Ngaparou and Somone from 31 October to 14 November 2026, between 6pm and 7am. Exemptions require authorisation, with the measure justified by security for the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, Leral reports.

Motorcycles of all categories are banned from travelling between 6pm and 7am each day in Saly Portudal, Ngaparou and Somone, in the Thiès region, from 31 October to 14 November 2026. An order by the sub-prefect of Sindia allows an exemption only for people holding express authorisation from the administrative authority, Leral reports.

The measure is justified by security requirements and service needs. It follows correspondence from the commander of the Mbour gendarmerie company, dated 22 October, and the commissioner of the Saly urban police station, dated 27 October, according to Leral.

The Saly commissioner and the commanders of the local gendarmerie brigades in Ngaparou and Somone are responsible for enforcing the order. Offenders face the penalties provided for under the laws and regulations in force.

The ban comes as the authorities have already introduced traffic restrictions linked to the 2026 Youth Olympic Games, which are being held in Dakar. In Dakar, a section of the western Corniche was closed when the Olympic flame passed through.
