Senegal’s Autonomous Union of Doctors, Pharmacists and Dental Surgeons is holding a 72-hour national strike from 28 to 30 October 2026, notably seeking special status, recruitment and increased allowances. The union says talks with health authorities have produced no concrete progress, according to Senego.
The Autonomous Union of Doctors, Pharmacists and Dental Surgeons of Senegal (SAMES) is holding a 72-hour strike from 28 to 30 October 2026. The action is calling in particular for special status for the medical profession, recruitment, increased allowances, and measures on careers and retirement pensions, according to Senego.
The union has denounced the lack of concrete progress in its negotiations with the government. It is calling for an administrative, legal and financial framework suited to the responsibilities of doctors, pharmacists and dental surgeons, as well as the extension of allowances to public- and parapublic-sector professionals.
SAMES is also calling for the regular recruitment of professionals into the civil service, raising the age of tenure to 40 and the systematic promotion of staff. Finally, it wants priority integration of contract workers serving in difficult areas, with their years of service taken into account.
The mobilisation comes after the announcement, on 27 October, of 72 hours of national strike by Senegalese doctors.
