The Association of Interns and Former Interns of Senegalese Hospitals (AIAIHS) has declared a 48-hour strike after a medical intern was shot at his home in Guédiawaye. The action is intended to denounce the circumstances of the incident, which occurred overnight on 20-21 October during clashes linked to “Navétane” activities, according to its president, Dr Gora Gning, cited by RFM.
The doctor had got up to close a window after hearing noises outside when a projectile struck him. He was taken to Dalal Jamm Hospital, where he was treated in the emergency department and then in surgery; his condition is stable, Dr Gning said. The association believes the injury was caused by a live metal bullet.
The strike follows the shooting of a medical intern at his home in Guédiawaye, reported on 21 October.
