Senegal’s Minister of Land and Air Transport visited victims of a collision that killed eight people and seriously injured six on the Ndande-Kébémer road. The injured were taken to Louga regional hospital and a gendarmerie investigation has been opened, according to the ministry, cited by Senego.
A collision between a tipper truck loaded with sand and a 12-seat public transport vehicle killed eight people and seriously injured six on the Ndande-Kébémer road, in Louga Region, at around 9pm on Friday 23 October. Senegalese Minister of Land and Air Transport Abdoul Ahad Ndiaye visited the victims at Louga regional hospital, according to a statement from his ministry.
The six injured people were taken by firefighters to the regional hospital, where they are receiving treatment. The truck is reported to have overtaken a vehicle that was itself overtaking another before colliding head-on with the vehicle travelling from Dakar to Saint-Louis, according to initial information gathered by the Ndande gendarmerie brigade. An investigation has been opened to establish the exact circumstances of the tragedy.
The minister offered his condolences to the victims’ families and wished the injured a speedy recovery. He also urged road users to comply with the Highway Code.
The visit follows a collision between a truck and a minibus in Senegal, reported on 23 October, and the initial toll of six dead on the Kébémer-Ndande road, published on 24 October. The toll was later raised to nine dead in an update published the same day.
