Sinotrucks Nigeria is introducing Sitrak electric trucks to the Nigerian market to reduce transport costs and limit the impact of high fuel prices. Managing director Alfred Okugbeni says the vehicles can reduce energy expenses for manufacturers, distributors and logistics operators, ThisDay reports.

Sinotrucks Nigeria Limited, a government-recognised assembler and distributor of Chinese brand Sinotruk, has launched Sitrak electric commercial trucks on the Nigerian market. Its managing director and founder, Alfred Okugbeni, presented the vehicles as a solution intended to reduce transport costs and support the transition to less polluting energy sources, ThisDay reports.

The company estimates that electric trucks could reduce operating costs by 40% to 50% compared with conventional vehicles. The savings will nevertheless depend on electricity prices, vehicle use, charging infrastructure, financing and maintenance, according to Alfred Okugbeni.

Sinotrucks Nigeria had already recorded growing interest in compressed natural gas vehicles. Alfred Okugbeni said CNG trucks had enabled its customers to reduce their fuel costs by 30% to 35%. He is targeting manufacturers, distributors and logistics operators in particular, whose vehicles follow predictable routes and can be recharged at their company facilities.
