Airtel Nigeria adds more than 1,000 5G sites in 2026

Airtel Nigeria installed more than 1,000 5G mobile network sites in 2026, taking its network to more than 17,000 sites nationwide. Managing director Dinesh Balsingh announced the figures while launching a tool enabling subscribers to check network performance and report problems, Punch reports.

Airtel Nigeria has added more than 1,000 5G network sites since the beginning of 2026, its managing director Dinesh Balsingh announced on Friday 30 October. The telecoms operator has expanded access to high-speed mobile connectivity to meet rising demand and improve the quality of its services, according to Dinesh Balsingh.

The company now has more than 17,000 network sites in the country, after adding more than 1,050 sites during the last financial year. It has also launched the Airtel Open Network feature on the My Airtel Africa app: subscribers can view information on network performance and report connection problems to help technical teams locate incidents.

Dinesh Balsingh nevertheless clarified that the digital tool did not automatically repair network failures. It is intended to provide engineers with more precise information than call centres and physical service points on the location and nature of reported problems.

The announcement comes after Nigerian President Bola Tinubu called on Airtel Nigeria to improve its coverage and telecoms services, reported on 30 October.
