EF Market Solutions Nigeria Limited has been approved to issue international certificates confirming renewable electricity production in Lagos, previously issued by a British company. The accreditation from the Dutch I-TRACK Foundation could help solar operators access international buyers, according to the Nigerian company.

Nigerian company EF Market Solutions Nigeria Limited has been accredited to issue international renewable energy certificates in Lagos, the company announced on Thursday 29 October. The accreditation was granted by the Dutch I-TRACK Foundation, replacing a British company that previously issued the certificates in Nigeria, according to a statement sent to Saturday PUNCH.

These certificates verify renewable electricity production in Lagos and could provide the state’s solar operators with additional income from international buyers. They will be issued by a Nigerian company under the supervision of local authorities, said Ibukun Adebayo, managing director of EF Market Solutions.

The certificates will be issued through the Lagos Carbon Initiative, an environmental market and climate finance platform developed with the Lagos State Government, the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency and IBILE Holdings, the state’s investment company. The Lagos State Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources approved EF Market Solutions’ appointment by the I-TRACK Foundation.

The initiative is part of Lagos’s establishment of climate finance infrastructure, announced by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu at the Lagos climate summit in November 2025, according to the statement.
