Former Senegal international Alassane Ndour has criticised Malick Daf for combining his roles as Teungueth FC coach and U20 national coach after both teams were eliminated on 25 October. Senegal notably lost to Guinea in the semi-finals of the UFOA-A U20 tournament, Seneweb reports, citing Les Échos.
Alassane Ndour, a former Senegal international, has criticised Malick Daf for holding the dual roles of Teungueth FC coach and coach of the U20 Lions. “You cannot chase two hares at once,” he said on the sidelines of the Dakar Sport Summit, according to Seneweb, citing an interview with Les Échos.
According to Alassane Ndour, holding both roles disperses efforts, harms the monitoring of young talent and can create conflicts of interest. He called on the National Technical Directorate and governing bodies to separate the two roles: a club coach should remain focused on his team, while a coach of a young national side should concentrate on his selection.
The comments come after Teungueth FC were eliminated by Colombe FC in the Champions League on 25 October, followed by Senegal’s elimination in the semi-finals of the UFOA-A U20 tournament on the same day. The 3-2 extra-time defeat by Guinea prevented the Lions from qualifying for the U20 Africa Cup of Nations due to be held in Ghana and cost Senegal its continental title, Seneweb reports.
