Nigerian army neutralises 71 terrorists in the north-east

The Nigerian army neutralised 71 terrorists in ground, air and maritime operations in Borno and Yobe states, including 48 in Buni Yadi. One soldier was killed and two others injured, while weapons and ammunition were recovered, according to an operational report cited by P.M. News.

The Nigerian army said it had neutralised at least 71 fighters in ground, air and maritime operations in Borno and Yobe states in north-east Nigeria, according to an operational report published on Saturday by P.M. News. The operations also recovered weapons and ammunition and disrupted jihadist logistics networks.

A five-hour counter-offensive in Buni Yadi, Yobe State, killed 48 ISWAP fighters, according to the report. The military recovered 42 AK-47 rifles, five PKT machine guns, four general-purpose machine guns and a 60mm mortar, as well as 105 magazines and several thousand rounds of ammunition. One soldier was killed and two others were slightly injured.

A maritime operation supported by an armed drone then struck targets around Lake Chad on 28 October, killing eight fighters and wounding 10 others, according to an initial assessment. An air strike near Ngirmishi, north of Kerenoa, also killed about 15 fighters after a suspected logistics base was identified.

Nigerian forces also arrested seven people in Damasak on 28 October on suspicion of providing intelligence and supplies to terrorist groups. They seized phones, food supplies and 483,550 naira. On 27 October, fighters abandoned five anti-tank rockets and 175 rounds of ammunition during an ambush on the Mafa-Ajiri road.
