Senegalese politician Ngagne Demba Touré accuses officials of the ruling party of calling for a plot against Ousmane Sonko, president of the National Assembly. He calls on the judiciary to intervene to protect the rule of law and institutions, in a statement reported by Senego.

Ngagne Demba Touré, a Pastef official, accuses officials of the ruling party of calling for a plot against Ousmane Sonko, president of Senegal’s National Assembly. In a statement reported by Senego, he calls on the judiciary to respond in order to protect the institutions and republican principles.

The elected official denounces insults, slander and threats which, he says, are replacing democratic debate. He calls for the justice system to intervene immediately to uphold the rule of law.

The statement comes after Pastef called for an investigation into alleged threats against Sonko on 28 October. It also comes amid tensions over the debate on the Senegalese supplementary budget, which was suspended on 27 October.
