Gambian President Adama Barrow accuses the United Democratic Party of preventing the adoption of a new Constitution in the National Assembly. He says the UDP blocked reform despite his repeated calls to replace the 1997 Constitution, in an interview with QTV.
Gambian President Adama Barrow has accused the United Democratic Party (UDP), the main opposition party, of preventing the adoption of a new Constitution in the National Assembly. He made the accusation in an interview with QTV on Wednesday, Kerr Fatou reports.
Barrow has thus challenged the UDP’s repeated calls to replace the 1997 Constitution, saying the party blocked constitutional reform in Parliament. The president has also pledged to have a new Constitution adopted if he wins an absolute majority, according to a commitment reported on 29 October.
