The Municipal Development Agency has inaugurated local sports facilities worth more than 2 billion CFA francs in five municipalities around Dakar. The project includes six synthetic football pitches, two multi-purpose pitches and sports courses, according to Le Soleil.

Senegal’s Minister of Urban Planning, Local Authorities and Land Management, Moussa Bala Fofana, inaugurated sports infrastructure and facilities worth more than 2 billion CFA francs in Keur Massar on Thursday. The facilities are located in five municipalities: Dalifort, Médina Gounass, Keur Massar Nord, Keur Massar Sud and Sangalkam, according to Le Soleil.

The project includes six synthetic-turf football pitches, two multi-purpose pitches, local sports courses and landscaping. The Municipal Development Agency, which built the facilities, aims to bring the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games to local communities and promote mass participation in sport, according to Le Soleil.

Moussa Bala Fofana presented these spaces as places for sport, but also for meeting, learning and solidarity. The inauguration is part of the implementation of Progep 2, the rainwater management and climate-change adaptation project, according to Le Soleil.

The infrastructure adds to preparations for the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, after the mobilisation of 600 healthcare workers and 30 ambulances was announced on 28 October as part of the event.
