Ghanaian Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has called for work on La General Hospital to be accelerated to meet the January 2028 deadline. The €50 million project includes medical equipment installation and must also review its emergency department capacity, the Ghanaian Times reports.

Ghanaian Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has asked the companies building La General Hospital to speed up work so that the facility can be completed in January 2028. He spoke during an inspection of the site, according to the Ghanaian Times.

The minister acknowledged the progress made, while saying that the pace needed to increase given the hospital’s expected role for local residents. He rejected the possibility of a slowdown linked to payment delays and said the state was paying the companies on time. The latest interim payment certificate had been sent to the Finance Ministry for processing, he said.

Kwabena Mintah Akandoh also called for the planned capacity of the emergency department to be reviewed to meet demand and reduce the recurring shortage of emergency beds. The project is worth €50 million and includes the supply and installation of medical equipment, according to the Ghanaian Times.
