A Ghanaian court has rejected Charles Bissue’s request to have corruption charges against him and two co-defendants dismissed. The former illegal mining official faces nine charges, according to Ghana’s Office of the Special Prosecutor, cited by 3News.
A Ghanaian court has rejected arguments by Charles Bissue, former secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM), seeking to have corruption charges against him and two other people dropped. The decision was announced on Thursday 29 October by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), according to 3News.
Charles Bissue, Raphael Mensah and Naa Dedei Tagoe face nine charges linked to alleged corruption and abuse of office. Bissue challenged the proceedings, citing a previous case that was still pending, an alleged police decision to discontinue the case and the OSP’s lack of jurisdiction to investigate without a police referral.
The court found that the previous proceedings had been withdrawn and struck out on 3 July 2025. The judge ruled that Bissue’s lawyer’s inability to remember that hearing was not enough to set aside the official records. The defence then withdrew its challenge, before the court described the arguments as frivolous and dismissed them.
Charles Bissue has made several legal challenges to the investigation and prosecution since 2023, according to the OSP. The case comes amid legal proceedings related to illegal mining in Ghana.
