Nigeria's anti-corruption commission has arraigned Adeniyi Adeyemi, accused of fabricating documents to have a non-existent agency recognised and seek 30.8 billion naira in public funds. Tried in Abuja, he pleaded not guilty to the 22 charges, Punch reports.
Nigeria's Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission has arraigned Adeniyi Adeyemi before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in Abuja on 22 counts related to forgery, impersonation and alleged fraud involving 30.8 billion naira. The accused pleaded not guilty on Thursday, Punch reports.
The commission accuses him of fabricating official documents to have a non-existent council recognised as a public agency, obtain government offices and access public funds. The charges notably concern a request for more than 27 billion naira to launch the structure and 3.8 billion naira for its staff costs, according to the prosecution cited by Punch.
Adeniyi Adeyemi allegedly also used a forged letter attributed to the president's chief of staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, to justify his appointment as head of the council. The commission further accuses him of offering 210,000 naira to Aminu Abdullahi, an official at the Office of the Secretary to the Government, to obtain premises, as well as 300,000 naira to Ogaba Harry, an official in the office of the president's chief economic adviser, to facilitate the handover of two official vehicles, a Prado and a Land Cruiser.
