The Ladoke Akintola University of Technology teachers’ union has launched an indefinite strike in Ogbomoso, Nigeria, after a 14-day ultimatum expired. It is demanding implementation of the 2025 wage agreement, payment of arrears owed since January 2026 and academic allowances, according to its local branch.

Teachers at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, began an indefinite strike on Thursday to demand payment of several outstanding sums and implementation of the wage agreement concluded in 2025 between the Nigerian federal government and the university union ASUU. The action disrupted academic activities, Vanguard reports.

The local ASUU branch is demanding, among other things, arrears linked to the agreement, owed since January 2026, accrued academic allowances and promotion arrears covering the period from 2013 to 2025. LAUTECH’s governing council approved implementation of the December 2025 agreement, but the management cites a lack of funding to explain the delays, according to the union quoted by Vanguard.

The demands also concern the university’s governance. They include the composition of the staff disciplinary committee, the reconstitution of the committee of deans and heads of departments, and transparency in the electronic voting system. The strike was launched after a 14-day ultimatum expired and several discussions between the union and management failed, according to Vanguard.
