The Nigerian government has approved construction of King Amachree Airport in Rivers State, subject to 11 technical conditions. The project must notably provide a solution for the canal crossing the site and studies on flood risks and tidal influences, according to Vanguard.

The Nigerian government has approved the King Amachree Airport project at Elem Ifoko, Rivers State, subject to 11 conditions. The decision was signed on 26 October by P. T. Vembe, director of aerodrome development at the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, according to Vanguard newspaper.

The ministry notably requires a master plan detailing the construction phases, a technical study of the canal crossing the site to determine whether it should be diverted or a bridge built, and hydrological studies on flood risks, tides and water flows. It also requests a geotechnical study of the soil and the construction of an all-weather road for the works, airport operations, emergency services, and the transport of passengers and goods.

The approval follows an application submitted on 25 June by Prince Tonye T.J.T. Princewill, executive director of Royal Fouche Services Limited, and an inspection conducted from 2 to 4 September by the ministry’s technical team. The airport is planned at coordinates 4°23’21.7’’ north and 7°00’52.2’’ east.
