Nigeria’s First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has announced a 11.99 billion-naira package for elderly people and people with disabilities, amounting to 110 million naira per participating senatorial district. The programme comprises two 55-million-naira components and is expected to benefit 250 people, according to a statement from her media aide carried by Punch.
Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, announced on Thursday a 11.99 billion-naira assistance programme for elderly people and people with disabilities. The scheme provides for 110 million naira in each participating senatorial district, according to a statement by Busola Kukoyi, the First Lady’s special adviser on media, quoted by Punch.
Each district will receive two allocations of 55 million naira. The economic empowerment programme for people with disabilities and the support scheme for elderly people are each expected to reach 250 beneficiaries, with an individual allocation of 200,000 naira, according to the statement.
Oluremi Tinubu asked senatorial candidates from the All Progressives Congress (APC), the ruling party, to oversee implementation and identify beneficiaries. She said that APC membership should not be a condition for access to the aid, according to Punch.
The announcement comes as free healthcare for low-income pensioners in Nigeria is already among the social measures being highlighted in the country.
