NAFDAC destroys 8bn naira worth of fake products

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control destroyed medicines, food, cosmetics and banned alcohol worth about 8 billion nairas in Lafia, Nigeria. The products had been seized in the country’s central north, and Director-General Mojisola Adeyeye warned of health risks, according to Aminiya.

The Nigerian National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) destroyed counterfeit, expired or unfit products worth nearly 8 billion nairas in Lafia, Nasarawa State, on Thursday 29 October. The products, seized during operations in northern Nigeria’s central region, included medicines, food, cosmetics and banned alcoholic drinks, Aminiya reports.

NAFDAC Director-General Mojisola Adeyeye notably cited banned alcoholic drinks sold in bottles of less than 200 millilitres. She warned that their affordability and availability made it easier for young people and children to consume them, posing risks to the brain, liver and kidneys.
