The Pastef parliamentary group has submitted proposals, at Ousmane Sonko’s initiative, to establish five commissions of inquiry into public-sector management, covering oil and gas contracts and special funds among other matters. Their creation still depends on the Bureau of the National Assembly ruling the proposals admissible, according to Senenews.
The Pastef parliamentary group, at Ousmane Sonko’s initiative, has submitted draft resolutions to establish five commissions of inquiry into public-sector management in Senegal. The cases concern oil and gas contracts, special funds held by several institutions, three projects financed by Banco Santander, the decade-long flood-control programme and the health agreement between Dakar and Washington, Senenews reports.
The investigations into hydrocarbons would cover the awarding, transfer and withdrawal of blocks in the Petro-Tim, Cosmos and Woodside cases. MPs also want to examine the use of special funds by the Prime Minister’s Office, the Economic, Social and Environmental Council and the High Council of Territorial Collectivities between 2012 and 2021.
The three projects financed by Banco Santander are worth nearly 226 billion CFA francs: 85 billion for agricultural equipment and warehouses, 50 billion for a digital development project and 91 billion for rural electrification. The proposals must still be ruled admissible by the Bureau of the National Assembly before the commissions can be established.
These initiatives follow on from the parliamentary inquiries into special funds, whose admissibility was still pending on 18 October.
