The US ambassador to South Africa, Leo Brent Bozell III, warns of further measures if Pretoria does not meet five US demands. They notably concern violence against farms, land reform, race-related laws and foreign policy, according to NewsDay.

The United States could take further punitive measures against South Africa if Pretoria does not respond to its demands, Leo Brent Bozell III, the US ambassador to Pretoria, warned during an interview with The Common Sense on Monday 19 October, according to NewsDay, as cited by Tuko.

“The next moves by the United States will not be good for South Africa,” the diplomat said. He stated that Washington had been discussing the matter with the South African government for nearly two years, with results considered limited, while saying it wanted to preserve strong and lasting relations.

The threat follows visa restrictions announced the previous month by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio against people accused of promoting racial discrimination, inciting violence or facilitating land expropriation without compensation. Washington is notably seeking answers on attacks on farms, political slogans, land reform, race-based laws and South Africa’s foreign policy.
