The Nigeria Customs Service is strengthening cooperation with six security and regulatory agencies to combat cross-border money laundering, terrorist financing and other financial crimes. The initiative aims to improve intelligence sharing and operations against criminal networks active along the borders, according to its spokesman Abdullahi Maiwada, quoted by Punch on Sunday.
The partners are the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit, the immigration service and the National Counter-Terrorism Centre attached to the National Security Adviser. They took part in a working session held from 27 to 29 October 2026.
The mission, led by Muhammad Shuaibu, the deputy comptroller-general in charge of customs headquarters, included visits to border posts. Participants were due to examine the controls applied on the ground and improve the detection of suspicious transactions and illicit movements of funds, he said.
