Soldiers from Operation Fansan Yamma rescued 11 people kidnapped in two operations on 30 and 31 October in the Danko-Wasagu district of Kebbi State. Seven hostages were abandoned by their captors after an exchange of fire, according to Nigerian Army 8th Division spokesperson Olaniyi Osoba.
Troops from Operation Fansan Yamma rescued 11 people who had been kidnapped in two operations on 30 and 31 October in the Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, north-western Nigeria. Lieutenant-Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, spokesperson for the Nigerian Army’s 8th Division in Sokoto, announced the operations in a statement sent to Punch.
Seven hostages were abandoned by armed men after an exchange of fire near Ribah, where the attackers had blocked a road and tried to overrun the town. Four other people, kidnapped from their farms in Wasagu village, were freed after soldiers repelled an attack by suspected terrorists. The first seven victims were reunited with their families, while the other four were handed over to the head of the Wasagu community.
The releases follow the rescue of two hostages in Zamfara and Sokoto, announced on 29 October, and that of three more hostages on 26 October in an operation that also killed eight terrorists, according to the Nigerian Army.
