Preparations to release two December films have revived comparisons between Funke Akindele and Toyin Abraham, Nigerian actresses and filmmakers. Promotional campaigns for “The Four: No One Fights Alone” and “Bestie” are fuelling debate among their fan communities over their strategies and box-office ambitions, Punch reports.

The December cinema releases of Funke Akindele and Toyin Abraham, two Nigerian Nollywood actresses and filmmakers, have revived comparisons between their teams and promotional strategies. Akindele is preparing “The Four: No One Fights Alone”, while Abraham is due to release “Bestie”, according to Punch.

The controversy notably concerns the use of personalised adire fabrics, a traditional Yoruba textile, to promote the films. Akindele and members of her team, including Wumi Toriola, Kemity and Lateef Adedimeji, wore blue fabric bearing the title “The Four” at the birthday celebration of Nike Akinyemi, head of KolonyEvents. Abraham later posted photographs of herself wearing pink and orange fabric bearing the title “Bestie”.

The designer of Toyin Abraham’s outfit disputed allegations of copying, saying the fabric had been prepared beforehand. Fans of the two actresses, known as “Titans” for Akindele and “Jenifans” for Abraham, are also debating their announced collaborations on TikTok and how Abraham revealed her film’s title, according to Punch.
