Nigeria’s electoral commission records 3,736,434 registered voters in Rivers State, out of 15,823,550 across the South-South zone, ahead of the 2027 general elections. Its chairman, Joash O. Amupitan, also announces verification of the register and publication of the final list on 15 December 2026, according to Leadership.

Rivers State has 3,736,434 registered voters, the highest number in the South-South geopolitical zone, which has a total of 15,823,550 ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, according to INEC chairman Joash O. Amupitan, quoted by Leadership on Saturday in Port Harcourt.

The Independent National Electoral Commission of Nigeria (INEC) plans to publish the final voters’ register on 15 December 2026. It is currently examining photographs deemed suspicious in the preliminary register and is calling on voters to take part in the display, claims and objections process.

INEC is also preparing 57,000 new devices for the BVAS biometric system and auditing its electronic results transmission tools. To transport personnel and equipment to coastal and riverine areas, it has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Maritime Transporters Union. The commission says it is working with the security forces under ICCES, Nigeria’s inter-agency committee responsible for electoral security, and warns that attacks on its staff, including members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), will be prosecuted.

These preparations extend INEC’s recent commitments on the security and credibility of the poll, notably the strengthening of security ahead of the 2027 elections, announced on 31 October, and the retention of the 2027 election dates, confirmed on 1 November.
