Police in Nigeria’s Anambra State are conducting raids in forests and suspected criminal hideouts to disrupt kidnapping and armed robbery networks. The coordinated operation with other forces aims to prevent armed groups from regrouping, according to spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga, cited by Punch.
Anambra State police have launched raids in forests, bushes and suspected criminal hideouts, with the support of other security forces and the Aguanachemba. The aim is to dismantle bases used for kidnappings, armed robberies and other violence, Anambra police spokesperson Superintendent Tochukwu Ikenga said on Saturday.
The operation is being led by Harrison Oruruo, deputy commissioner in charge of operations, and is based on intelligence intended to prevent criminal groups from regrouping or moving to other areas. The state’s police commissioner, Nnanna Ama, said the offensive would continue and would not be a one-off operation, according to the Anambra police command.
The operation comes after several security announcements in Nigeria, including one by the Nigerian Navy saying on 31 October that it had killed 34 Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters. It also comes amid the kidnapping of two motorists in Ogun, reported on 27 October.
