Nigerian President Bola Tinubu praised the work of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission after the FBI commended it for the arrest and extradition of two Nigerian suspects. The international operation targeted networks involved in the sexual extortion of minors, Business Day Nigeria reports.

Nigerian President Bola Tinubu praised the work of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) after US FBI Director Kash Patel sent a letter commending its chairman, Ola Olukoyede. The letter recognised the EFCC’s role in the arrest and extradition of two Nigerians suspected of international sexual extortion targeting minors, according to Bayo Onanuga, the president’s special adviser on information strategy.

Adebola Festus Adekunle and Mudasiru Afeez Olawale were arrested and extradited to the United States in August 2026 as part of Operation Artemis, a joint investigation into networks accused of sexually exploiting and extorting children. The two men face federal charges in the US, Business Day Nigeria reports.

Bola Tinubu described the recognition as a sign of Nigeria’s progress in combating financial crime and in international police cooperation. He said that law enforcement and anti-corruption institutions had his support in pursuing offenders.

The president also cited Nigeria’s removal from the Financial Action Task Force grey list in October 2025 and from the European list of high-risk financial jurisdictions in January 2026. He called on the EFCC to continue operations against criminal networks, according to Business Day Nigeria.
