Former Sokoto State governor Aminu Tambuwal condemns the alleged attack on the convoy of Manir Dan’iya, the African Democratic Congress candidate for governor. He calls for an independent investigation and prosecutions of those responsible, according to Punch.
Former Sokoto State governor and Sokoto South senator Aminu Tambuwal has called for a swift, independent and impartial investigation after a reported attack on the convoy of Manir Dan’iya, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for governor. Dan’iya says agents of the Sokoto Marshal and the Sokoto State Community Guard fired on his convoy, damaged his vehicle and threatened his life on Friday 30 October near Sokoto airport, Punch reports.
Tambuwal has petitioned the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services and other relevant security agencies. He called on them to identify those responsible and bring them to justice, while urging the Sokoto State government to ensure that units under its authority act lawfully and without bias.
The senator urged political actors to prioritise peaceful debate and not use security forces to intimidate their opponents. He also asked ADC members and supporters to remain calm, confirming that the party’s presidential campaign launch in Sokoto would go ahead on 4 November.
The call for an investigation follows reports of gunfire at the convoy of a Nigerian candidate in Sokoto on 30 October. The ADC had earlier postponed its presidential campaign launch in Sokoto to 4 November, according to Punch.
