Nigerian President Bola Tinubu has proposed six executive directors for the authority regulating the country’s midstream and downstream oil sector, including three reappointments and three new nominations. Their five-year terms now depend on Senate confirmation, according to presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga.

Nigerian President Bola Tinubu has proposed six executive directors to sit on the board of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), the authority responsible for regulating midstream and downstream oil activities. His spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, announced on 30 October 2026 that the nominations had been sent to the Senate for confirmation, according to ThisDay.

Three officials, Abiodun Adeniji, Ogbugo Kalu Ukoha and Mustapha Lamorde, have been reappointed, while Mobolaji Tajudeen Musa, Ogechukwu Modie and Said Abutalib would join the board. The six terms would last five years after approval by the Senate. Tinubu also approved the appointment of Jumoke Gafar as secretary to the board and legal adviser to the NMDPRA, subject to the procedures set out in the 2021 Petroleum Industry Act, according to Bayo Onanuga.

The president asked the Senate to examine the nominations swiftly to ensure the institution’s continuity and strengthen its oversight capacity. Rabiu Abdullahi Umar was appointed director general of the NMDPRA in April, ThisDay recalls.
