Seyi Makinde, Oyo State governor and presidential candidate for the Advanced Peoples Movement, criticised Bola Tinubu’s trip to Saudi Arabia to pray for Nigeria. He said the president could pray from home instead of travelling to Riyadh, reports the Daily Post Nigeria.

Seyi Makinde, Oyo State governor and presidential candidate for the APM party, criticised Bola Tinubu’s trip to Saudi Arabia to pray for Nigeria. “We can pray for Nigeria here; we don’t need Saudi Arabia,” he said, according to the Daily Post.

The criticism comes as the Nigerian president is in Riyadh to perform Umrah, the lesser Muslim pilgrimage. Makinde believes prayers for the country can be said in Nigeria.

The controversy follows Tinubu’s departure for Mecca on 28 October and arrival in Riyadh on 29 October for the pilgrimage. The president had also defended borrowing to fund Nigerian infrastructure the day before arriving in Riyadh.
