Oyo State APC governorship candidate Sharafadeen Alli has promised to pay public workers’ salaries and allowances promptly if elected in 2027. The pledge comes as doctors in the state and lecturers at LAUTECH are on strike, according to a statement from his campaign team.

Senator Sharafadeen Alli, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for governor of Oyo State, has promised to pay public workers’ salaries and benefits promptly if elected in 2027. He made the commitment as doctors and dentists in the state and lecturers at Ladoke Akintola University (LAUTECH), in Ogbomoso, are on strike, according to ThisDay.

The medical workers’ strike began on Monday and the strike by members of LAUTECH’s branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) on Thursday. A statement from Alli’s campaign team said the demands included unpaid allowances and the restoration of salaries for doctors assigned to field missions and then transferred to the Ministry of Health. The lecturers are demanding implementation of the 2025 agreement between the federal government and ASUU, payment of promotion arrears and equipment for the university.

Alli accused Governor Seyi Makinde of neglecting the strikes and pursuing his presidential campaign. His campaign team warned that the work stoppage was worsening the difficulties faced by medical staff already under heavy pressure. The indefinite strike by LAUTECH lecturers was announced on 29 October 2026.
