The Federal High Court in Abuja ordered Hope Uzodinma to stop presenting himself as the Nigeria Progressives Party candidate in western Imo State. The judge recognised Rochas Okorocha as the winner of the 18 May primary and asked the party to nominate him for the 16 January 2027 senatorial election, Leadership reports.
The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma to immediately stop presenting himself as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Imo West senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections. Justice Obiora Egwuatu recognised Rochas Okorocha, a former governor of Imo State, as the winner of the APC primary and asked the party to submit his name to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), according to the Nigerian daily Leadership.
The decision concerns the primary held on 18 May and monitored by INEC. The judge found that the evidence presented to the court established that Okorocha had won a majority of the votes. The Imo West senatorial election is scheduled for 16 January 2027, according to Leadership.
The decision comes as INEC announced on 28 October that it would review candidacies rejected for 2027, while the Nigerian government denied on 29 October any postponement of the 16 January presidential election.
