Nigeria Democratic Congress presidential candidate for 2027 Peter Obi has promised to prosecute and imprison anyone found guilty of electoral fraud if he is elected. The former governor of Anambra State was speaking on Wednesday at a public meeting of his party in Nasarawa State, Leadership reports.
Obi extended the threat to officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and anyone involved in organising the election. He also promised to reform the electoral process, strengthen political parties and impose candidacy conditions requiring, among other things, attendance at primary and secondary school. People who falsified their certificates or lied about their qualifications would also be prosecuted, according to Leadership.
The statement came after the NDC entrusted its 2027 presidential campaign to Henry Dickson and Peter Obi on 25 October. It also followed criticism of President Bola Tinubu by Peter Obi, published on 26 October.
