The African Democratic Congress has postponed the launch of its presidential campaign in Nigeria’s Sokoto State to 4 November, from 31 October. The party cites organisational requirements and accuses local authorities of pressuring hotels hosting its delegates, according to Bello Aliyu Goronyo.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has postponed the launch of its presidential campaign in Nigeria’s Sokoto State to Wednesday 4 November 2026, from the original date of 31 October. Bello Aliyu Goronyo, director-general of the ADC presidential campaign council in Sokoto, cited planning and coordination requirements in a statement issued on Wednesday, according to P.M. News.

The postponement comes as the ADC accuses the Sokoto State Government of asking hotels to refuse accommodation to party delegates. The party says some delegates who had already booked rooms were asked to leave their hotels, allegations that have not been independently verified. The campaign council did not explicitly link the postponement to the dispute.

The rally is expected to bring together Atiku Abubakar, the ADC’s presidential candidate, and other party leaders ahead of the 2027 general elections. Bello Aliyu Goronyo apologised to officials, supporters and members of the public affected by the change of date.

The announcement follows the ADC’s challenge to allegations against Atiku, published on 24 October. It also comes on the day the Nigerian government denied any postponement of the 16 January presidential election, on 29 October, as parties prepare for the 2027 vote.
