The troops of Operation Fansan Yamma, a joint force engaged in north-western Nigeria, freed two hostages and recovered 520 head of cattle on 28 October in Sokoto State, Major General WB Idris, the operation’s theatre commander, announced, as quoted by Alwihda Info.
The soldiers found the two hostages, 50-year-old Malam Sulaiman and 14-year-old Nasiru Sulaiman, in the village of Takasaba, in the Sabon Birni local government area. They handed the two over to the local authorities, according to Alwihda Info.
On the same day, in neighbouring Zamfara State, Sector 2 soldiers repelled an ambush on the Anka-Guruzu route. A soldier was shot and wounded and is in a stable condition, Alwihda Info reports.
In Takasaba, the operation also thwarted an attempt to steal cattle and kidnap people. Major General WB Idris called on residents to pass on to the security forces any information that could help operations against armed groups.
