Ivorian newspapers highlighted on Thursday a meeting between Ivorian Defence Minister Téné Birahima Ouattara and his counterpart from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Guy Kabombo Muadiamvita. Several dailies described the meeting as a step towards renewing or tightening military cooperation between Abidjan and Kinshasa, the Ivorian Press Agency (AIP) reports.
The newspapers Liberté and Fraternité Matin described the meeting as strategic and as a renewal of military cooperation. L'Expression reports that the two countries are considering a strategic agreement, while Le Jour Plus presented the discussions as a shared desire to contribute to peace and stability in Africa.
The press also returned to legal proceedings targeting opposition figures. The National Human Rights Council (CNDH) called for respect for freedom and security, as well as the preservation of the independence of the judiciary, according to the titles cited by AIP.
On the economic front, the dailies also addressed several national issues, including the report of the Court of Auditors, AIP reports. The military meeting comes as Abidjan seeks to strengthen regional cooperation, after the Abidjan forum on cooperation at African borders, held on 20 October.
