Ivorian Prime Minister Robert Beugré Mambé opened the third edition of the Abidjan Border Forum on Tuesday 20 October 2026, devoted to people living in border areas, culture, integration and security. The forum’s work is intended to strengthen cross-border cooperation and develop responses suited to local realities, he said on behalf of President Alassane Ouattara.
African Union Commission chair Mahmoud Ali Youssouf urged neighbouring states to step up cooperation to combat illicit trafficking, crime and terrorism. He said integrated border management was necessary to build a peaceful, integrated and prosperous Africa.
For Beugré Mambé, border areas are also places of exchange and solidarity between communities with shared historical and economic ties. The forum is jointly organised by the Ivorian government, through its National Borders Commission, and the African Union Commission.
The forum opened the day after the Ivorian prime minister called for the development of border regions. His call to develop border regions is part of the same dossier as the discussions launched in Abidjan.
