Nigeria’s Nasarawa State will hold a polio vaccination campaign from 7 to 10 November in the Nasarawa and Keffi areas, after two suspected cases were reported. The operation is to draw on media mobilisation and community awareness, according to Nasarawa’s Primary Health Care Development Agency, cited by Punch.
Nasarawa State will launch a polio vaccination campaign from 7 to 10 November 2026 in the Keffi and Nasarawa local government areas. Iskilu Saleh, executive secretary of the state’s Primary Health Care Development Agency, announced this on Thursday in Lafia, according to Nigerian newspaper Punch.
The campaign follows two suspected cases of poliovirus, one in each of the two areas. Ismaila Okoh, the agency’s director of immunisation, who represented Saleh at a meeting with the media, called for stronger community awareness and mobilisation ahead of the vaccination days, Punch reports.
Nasarawa authorities are working with the World Health Organization, UNICEF and the Clinton Health Access Initiative. Saleh said that, apart from the two suspected cases, no other cases had been reported in the state. He also encouraged parents to have their children vaccinated at health centres, including outside one-off campaigns.
The local campaign is part of a national effort: on 24 October, Nigeria announced a target of one million children for polio vaccination.
