The Nigerian Army has deployed a new battalion and an artillery regiment in Kano State to strengthen security and improve its response to threats, the spokesman for the 1st Division, Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi, said in a statement cited by Punch on Thursday. Major General Abubakar Muhammad Wase, the division’s commander, assessed their readiness during a visit to Tudun Wada and Dambatta on 28 and 29 October 2026.

The two units, the 24th Battalion and the 311th Artillery Regiment, are being established. Wase said the army was working with the Kano State Government to accelerate their operational readiness. He also identified soldiers’ welfare and logistical support as priorities.

Accompanied by the commander of the 3rd Brigade, Brigadier General Saka Jimoh, Wase met local officials in Dambatta and Tudun Wada. He called on communities to cooperate with the military to improve security in the state.

The deployment comes amid operations and a reorganisation of Nigerian forces. On 28 October, the army had been ordered to track down armed groups in Old Oyo National Park.
