The new Beninese road code requires every driver of a motorised vehicle to hold a valid driving licence, La Nouvelle Tribune reports. The measure applies to drivers of two-wheelers, three-wheelers and cars.
The law also introduces road safety education into school curricula. Pupils must learn, among other things, to recognise road signs and behave safely as pedestrians or cyclists, according to La Nouvelle Tribune.
The code also strengthens pedestrian protection, another measure outlined in the new Beninese road rules.
